Even if you set the tether distance to 1000+ ect, in the original Ark at least, non dedicated is still somewhat impossible if you want to do any caves as it breaks the tether no matter the distance. When playing in an non dedicated serv, you can't go further than 180 meters away from the host. In ARK SE I remember that we could change the tethering distance, however, no matter how I change this option, i can't be further than 180 meters which is quite problematic.
