Filter heads are very common issue. But agree with chevytech77. Would probably try to find out if the issue is sensitive to fuel level. If it isn't, would go the filter head route. The cam sensor is only used as a reference for the ECM so it knows which cylinder is at TDC. I would take a look at the crank sensor as well.
